Describe the orientation and mobility techniques that were presented in the audio lecture that you viewed in Web Field Trip 1.
Several orientation and mobility techniques were presented in the Power Point presentation, “Foundations of Developmentally Appropriate Orientation and Mobility: Session 1”. These techniques include:
- Hand searching- goal-directed reaching
- Trailing- lightly tracing a wall or piece of furniture in order to facilitate movement from one place to the other
- Upper Body Protection- use of one or both arms placed in front of the body to avoid injury while walking
- Guide technique- employed when another person physically guides the child when walking together.
